Made with Hot Wheels, the set pairs a big display model with a matching die-cast. It’s built to be personalised, with:

  • Decals

Mattel Brick Shop presented the set at a press conference at its booth on 12 October. Below, you’ll find:

  • Steering and hood details
  • Size, piece count and extras
  • Decals, wheel covers and add-on parts
  • The 1971 original, Hakosuka, and why it still matters

How Big Is the Set & What Comes in the Box?

The set includes 833 pieces and builds a 1:16-scale white car with printed red stripes. Two extras come in the box:

  1. A metal signature plate
  2. An exclusive matching 1:64-scale Hot Wheels die-cast

Build the big car, then park the die-cast beside it to show the same car in two sizes.

What Can You Customise on the Nissan Skyline GT-R Building Set?

You can change the car’s look with a decal sheet, two sets of wheel covers and extra parts.

Side-by-side comparison of the built 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R in stock white finish versus the custom racing edition with number 6 decals, front splitter, red headlight covers and swappable black rims.

One set of wheel covers is metal, and the extra parts include:

  • A front splitter
  • An intercooler
  • Headlight covers

Which Details Make the Nissan Skyline GT-R Set Feel Authentic?

Two working features stand out:

  1. Functional steering
  2. An opening hood that reveals the engine detailing

Turn the steering, then lift the hood to check the engine. It’s a model you can handle, not just display.

Why Does the Hakosuka Matter to Collectors?

The Hakosuka matters because it started the GT-R legend and is rare.

Three things drive collector demand:

  1. Racing record: About 50 race wins between May 1969 and March 1972.
  2. Rarity: Fewer than 2,000 built in sedan and coupe form, and only a few left Japan.
  3. Design: A boxy shape that earned the nickname, which loosely means “boxy Skyline.”

What does 1:16 scale mean for the Skyline GT-R model?

A 1:16 scale model is one-sixteenth the size of the real car. The matching Hot Wheels die-cast is 1:64, so the built car is four times larger. Set them side by side, and the size gap is easy to see.

What is Mattel Brick Shop?

Mattel Brick Shop is Mattel’s premium building brand. The Skyline GT-R is its first Nissan set, developed with Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels supplies the matching die-cast, so one purchase gives you both a build project and a classic collectable.

Will the set be sold in South Africa?

Mattel has not confirmed availability in South Africa. The release window is January 2027. We will flag local stockists on The High Crowd once they’re announced.
